{"id":852,"date":"2022-05-12T16:09:52","date_gmt":"2022-05-12T14:09:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ibsasailing.com\/?page_id=852"},"modified":"2023-07-25T10:51:41","modified_gmt":"2023-07-25T08:51:41","slug":"andrea-madaffari","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.ibsasailing.com\/en\/andrea-madaffari\/","title":{"rendered":"Andrea Madaffari"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-GB\">Born in 1955 in Carrara, Andrea Madaffari approached the sailing world during his university period, hanging around the docks of the Marina di Carrara Yacht Club and trying to participate in their regattas, despite not having any experience yet.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-GB\">Driven by his passion for sailing, Andrea began to devote himself to the athletic training of the excellent sailors who frequented the Carrarese club at the time, including the Santellas, the Chieffi brothers, Guglielmo Vatteroni and many other promising guys.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-GB\">His great opportunity for a career breakthrough came in 1984 with the Italian Challenge at the America\u2019s Cup, where Andrea was involved first as a trainer and then \u201cpromoted\u201d on-board as a \u201cgrinder\u201d, within the mixed crew of <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-GB\"><i>Australia II<\/i><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-GB\">. A few months later he was called by Cino Ricci to join the crew of <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-GB\"><i>Azzurra<\/i><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-GB\">, still in Australia, and from that moment on the way was paved for various kinds of regattas, with great helmsmen.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-GB\">In 1989, <a href=\"https:\/\/it.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Paul_Cayard\">Paul Cayard<\/a> started selecting the crew of the <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-GB\"><i>Moro di Venezia<\/i><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-GB\">, and Andrea was actively involved, so much so that he made the team as a sailor and the head of athletic training. An intense period of high-level regattas followed, where he had the opportunity to sail with several stars, with whom he won two world championships and a Louis Vuitton Cup.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-GB\">The fantastic adventure of the <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-GB\"><i>Moro<\/i><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-GB\"> gave him the opportunity to be responsible for the Italian Olympic Sailing Team in preparation for the Atlanta Olympics for the entire four-year period 1993-1996, which ended with the bronze medal of Alessandra Sensini.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-GB\">After a break from the America\u2019s Cup in 2000, <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-GB\"><i>Mascalzone Latino<\/i><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-GB\"> called him for the 2002 cup in New Zealand, as well as for the next one in Valencia 2007, tasking him with the athletic training of the crew and assigning him the role of Head of the Team\u2019s Health &amp; Fitness.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-GB\">In his forty-year career, Andrea followed many athletes and was involved in countless scientific collaborations and publications. Today, he trains and prepares many promising young athletes; in particular, he has been closely involved with Alberto Bona, while preparing to face the <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-GB\"><i>Route du Rhum 2022 <\/i><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span lang=\"en-GB\">challenge with him<\/span><\/span><span lang=\"en-GB\">.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Born in 1955 in Carrara, Andrea Madaffari approached the sailing world during his university period, hanging around the docks of the Marina di Carrara Yacht Club and trying to participate in their regattas, despite not having any experience yet.
