{"id":4802,"date":"2023-07-23T15:58:46","date_gmt":"2023-07-23T13:58:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ibsasailing.com\/?p=4802"},"modified":"2023-07-23T16:39:48","modified_gmt":"2023-07-23T14:39:48","slug":"rolex-fastnet-day-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ibsasailing.com\/en\/rolex-fastnet-day-2\/","title":{"rendered":"ROLEX FASTNET | DAY 2 |"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>It\u2019s been less than 24 hours since 1 pm on Saturday, July 22, when \u2013 upon a cannon shot fired by the Royal Yacht Squadron at Cowes \u2013 364 boats set sail for the 50<sup>th<\/sup> edition of the Rolex <em>Fastnet Race<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Faithful to the <em>Shipping Forecast<\/em> \u2013 the well-known British bulletin, that on Saturday morning had issued an alert for sea conditions \u2013 the weather in the Solent Channel welcomed the sailors with winds of up to 40 knots, steep waves and very strong opposing current; so strong that, indeed, it took 8 of the 22 departing Class40s (including <em>IBSA<\/em>) by surprise, forcing them to make an early start, punished by the organisation with a two-hour penalty, that will be added to the final time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After the first night, while the forecasts continue to be perfectly met, in the early hours of the morning the Class40 <em>IBSA<\/em> navigates the last of the three gulfs before Land\u2019s End, one of the most iconic viewpoints in England, where the land ends and the Celtic Sea begins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since the start, <em>IBSA<\/em> has always been among the leading group of 10, rubbing elbows with her direct opponents, but it\u2019s still too early to draw up a ranking.
