Three thousand five hundred in 2022, 15,000 in 2023 and over 7,000 planned for 2024: without counting transfers, the Class40 IBSA will have sailed more than 25,000 in three years.
The adventure began in 2022, when Alberto Bona, then a rookie in Class40, participated in the Route du Rhum (a single-handed race) finishing eighth, just three months after the launch of his boat.
In 2023, the Class40 IBSA’s racing programme included six regattas, all multi-crewed. In five of these competitions, Alberto was joined by Pablo Santurde del Arco, Spanish navigator expert in both the Class40 and the Olympic classes. Having established a robust with Pablo, Alberto won the Class40 international championship, thanks to the sum of the results achieved during the season:
For 2024, Alberto decided to start the season by getting back to his origins in the Class40, with one of the most challenging solo ocean crossings on the sailing scene: the Transat CIC,from Lorient (France) to New York. The return to Europe, from Québec City (Canada) to Saint-Malo (France) will be with a crew of 3, and the season will end in September with the Normandy Channel Race, again in a double crew with Pablo Santurde del Arco.
