The Route du Rhum was the first stage of the three-year programme Sailing into the Future. Together, which the pharmaceutical multinational IBSA started with Alberto Bona, and which continues in 2023 with a busy calendar of regattas, including the Rolex Fastnet Race and the Transat Jaques Vabre.
The 3,540 nautical miles covered by the Class40 IBSA in 2022, crossing epic oceans and seas, will become 13,000 in 2023: from the Atlantic to the Bay of Biscay, to the English Channel, up to the Celtic Sea and finally the Mediterranean.
The adventure started in 2022 with Alberto Bona solo sailing as the lone skipper at the helm of his 12 m boat. In 2023, the Class40 IBSA hosts new travel companions and structured teams, depending on the race to be faced. Luke Berry – the friend-opponent against whom Alberto competed in the 2022 Route du Rhum – gets on board IBSA for a single race, the 2023 RORC 600 Caribbean, together with team manager Luca Bertacchi. Permanently present on board as co-skipper throughout 2023 is Pablo Santurde del Arco, expert navigator who boasts several double-crew victories in the Class40 championship.
