One month to the Transat CIC: Alberto Bona and the Class40 IBSA are ready for the season’s first challenge

28 March 2024

Everything is ready for the first seasonal event of Alberto Bona aboard the Class40 IBSA: there is exactly one month left until the start of the 15th edition of the Transat CIC, the famous solo transoceanic race which on April 28 will set sail from Lorient (France) headed to New York.

A month in which Bona will use every available moment to finalise the preparation of the boat and get back into the racing rhythm, after 90 days of maintenance work: “In these first ten days since launch”, he commented, “we started sailing again and we are testing the boat at sea: finally, we are back in the water; the boat is responding well and we are ready to face this new season, together with IBSA”.

The programme for the next 30 days includes solo runs, a series of group training sessions with other Class40s participating in the Transat CIC and the regatta Spi Ouest-France BPGO, in La Trinité-sur-Mer (France); then another “pit stop” for a last check and finally off to Lorient: “We will be in Lorient well in advance”, explained Alberto. “We will go through the safety checks and then we will be ready for the big challenge”.

After the checks and pre-start meetings organised by the race committee, Alberto will have a few days to experience the joyful atmosphere of the Transat CIC village before the start, which is scheduled for Sunday, April 28, at 1:02pm, together with the other 47 boats registered for the regatta.
