Sustainability at the heart of Class40 IBSA’s design

28 September 2022

Design, technology, choice of innovative materials, quality: everything in the Class40 IBSA has been conceived to create a fast, powerful and highly performing boat, but every decision was also guided by the aspiration to create a boat in line with the style and values of the project Sailing into the Future. Together, where sustainability still remains a critical element.

Christophe Almeida Direito, Senior Corporate Responsibility & Real Estate Manager, IBSA Group, has worked closely with Alberto Bona’s team since the early planning stages, at the beginning of 2022, with the aim of remaining as much faithful as possible to this approach: “We carried out this work like true craftsmen, dedicating great attention to details and conducting a very accurate research of technological elements and materials, pursuing an approach as sustainable as possible, as it is in the spirit of the project Sailing into the Future. Together and, more generally, in IBSA’s way of working”.

Indeed, the boat Alberto is currently testing at sea reflects IBSA’s choices and commitment towards a greater respect for the environment and all the sustainability aspects, which reached their peak with the collaboration with Bona and the project Sailing into the Future. Together. “Sailing is a totally clean sport, a symbol of sustainability par excellence. For navigation, the Class40 IBSA will use only the wind as an energy vector as well as the only driving force of the boat in the ocean”, said Direito. Everything in this boat is basic, both in the accessories and in the shapes and embellishment itself, and this both for technical requirements and because we believe that essentiality itself is a strength and a distinctive and identifying element of IBSA”.
